I turned an old screen into an 'electronic picture frame' for the missus to put some of her ~20k digital camera pictures onto. I soon got dissatisfied with using gqview -sf to run it, as it had issues with it's photo-store changing behind it's back (exported via samba, so you can just shove photots into \\viewtron\pics and they show up). And it's slow.
So I wrote the Viewtron; SDL hardware accelerated, preloading, prescaling and proper management of a changeable backingstore. Works great. I'm gonna write a web interface for it at some point, so you can change it's parameters, have playlists, etc. For now, it's just your basic Viewtron.
